The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released their new ratings for booster seats. Parents should be happy to know that good booster seats are easier to find in stores. They mentioned in their report, "boosters are better than they used to be at fitting lap and shoulder belts on 4-8 year-old kids to restrain them in a crash".

Researchers tested 72 booster seats and placed the top ones in a category of Best Bet or Good Bet. The seats were placed in these categories if they correctly positioned belts on average booster-age kids in most vehicles. Twenty-one boosters are Best Bet models, and 7 earn Good Bet, another 8 aren't recommended at all.

It's important to find a booster seat that fits your child properly in your car. The booster should lift kids into position for the lap and shoulder belt. Children between the ages of 4-8, who use boosters, are 45% less likely to sustain injuries in crashes than children restrained by belts alone.
