It's Craft Friday: Let's Make Something Edible

Fruit Kebabs for the Kids: Great After School Snack
Today's craft Friday here on Sofamilyonline.com and we're feeling an edible craft would be fun for the whole family. Summer is just about over and the kids are back to school, so we thought that this edible recipe would be a great way to mix the two. We're making Fruit Kebabs! Everyone loves fruit in the summer and they make the perfect after school snack. This snack can be made ahead of time and chilled or on the spot. You can decide when it would be a perfect time to make the snack. Some parents like the snack to be ready once the kids come home and others like the kids to make it when they get home. Well, take a look at the details below. Most importantly remember to get everyone involved and have fun. Post your pictures of the snack making in action, so we can see all of the fun you and your family had.

What You'll Need:

1. 8 Grapes
2. 8 Strawberries, hulled
3. 8 Melon Balls or Cubes
4. 8 Pineapple Chunks
5. 1 tsp Lemon Juice or Lime Juice
6. 1 tsp Fresh Mint
7. 2 tablespoons of sugar (optional)
8. Package of Bamboo Skewers

*Tip: Substitute any of the above fruits. Allow children to pick their favorite fruits to use.

Directions:

1. Trim the sharp ends of the skewers with scissors, especially if children are helping & eating
2. Cut your fruit into cubes, balls or whatever is easiest for you
3. Put all fruit in large bowl and pour lemon or lime juice over the fruit
4. You can separate the fruit into individual bowls to make it easier for the kids
5. Mix the fruit and lightly add sugar (optional)
6. Thread 5-6 pieces of fruit onto each skewer (children should be supervised)
7. Place Kebabs on a plate and refrigerate if not serving right away
8. If you'd like to make it even more fun add a dip to the plate
9. Enjoy!

*Tip: You can serve with a small bowl of fruit or plain yogurt, chocolate sauce or strawberry dip

*Post Your Pictures
