Stretch Your Money Further by So family When you’re a parent, trying to find ways to save money and stretch your dollars is always an issue. Fortunately, there are many different ways that you can save more and spend less that are simple, easy changes for just about anyone to make. Take the time to do an inventory of your spending and see where you can cut back, because the chances are good that you can probably afford to save more than you might realize. Here are five tips for saving money with ease:
1. Pack lunches. We’re not just talking about the kids here, but the parents. How much do you typically spend on your lunch during the workday? Add that to coffee breaks, snacks, and other excursions and you could probably save $10 or more each day just by packing a lunch and snacks so that you don’t have to dine out as often.
2. Have dinner parties with friends and family. By getting together for meals once or twice a week and taking turns cooking, you can spend less on food and enjoy a fun time together with people that you like to be around.
3. Share rides whenever possible. It’s nice to drop your children off at school and pick them up daily, but you can save a lot of money by carpooling or even letting them ride the bus, if it is available. You can also carpool or use public transportation to get to and from work, saving money on gas for everyone.
4. Eat out less often. You’re very busy and there isn’t always time for cooking. However, if you take even one night a week where you would spend $20 or $30 on dinner for the family and cook instead, you can easily put that money in savings or use it for something more important than burgers on the go.
5. Enlist family members or close friends for babysitting services. You don’t have to pay a sitter and your children will feel much more comfortable staying with people that they already know. You can usually save a lot of money this way, and can even trade off by offering your own services and taking turns with babysitting duties.
These are five easy ways to cut costs as a parent. Having children isn’t easy, nor is it cheap. However, if you look carefully at the things that you spend money on, cutting back will be a lot simpler than you think.
