We all know that moms wear many hats and carry many titles, so where do their social lives fall? Is there room for “me” time? I enjoy sitting down with moms and picking their brains about what it really means to be a mom, especially today, in 2013. Since I’m on my journey to motherhood I enjoy getting the real facts from real moms.
Over the holidays I spent time with my family, as always, and was able to talk to my mother and older sister about this topic. My conclusion is that in order to be the best you it’s important to take care of self. My mother sacrificed everything and definitely did not concentrate on herself while raising her children. It wasn’t until I was in high school, 4 kids later, that she realized she lost herself and quickly needed to re-evaluate her life and include her in it. She decided to put herself first and she says it was the best decision she could have made. She had finally realized that it was okay to have special time to herself and actually do things that she enjoyed. Easier said then done, but I saw the difference it made in her life and in ours (her children). My sister has three children ranging in age from 6-16 and she’s having a hard time finding “me” time, but she admits that it’s necessary. She said she feels rejuvenated when she gets a little time to herself, which is not often.
There are definitely some who believe that they should not put themselves first and their main priority is everyone and everything else. Maybe “me” time is not the answer for every mom, but I strongly believe that it makes a difference in the lives of mothers. It gives you a time to release any pinned up stress and just clear your mind. This special time for self can be as simple as a bubble bath, walk through the neighborhood or a morning jog. Whatever it is has to feel good to you.
Psychotherapist Debra Gilbert Rosenberg said in a recent article, ”Remember that even though you’re a mom, you are still a healthy adult, with needs which deserve to be met every bit as much as anyone else’s. So set aside a little time every day to do something, anything, which makes you feel better.”
So, how do you do it moms? How do you find “me”time and balance it with all of your daily responsibilities? Do you think “me” time is important for moms?

I totally agree, we need our “me” time. I get little after baby girl goes to sleep, but I usually get one weekend to myself/ourselves. So thankful that both sets of grandparents live in town.
Me time is essential in my house, I don’t get much of it IN my house but when I go to work, my me time is going to the gym on my lunch break, it makes me feel refreshed and amazing. Great post!
