Big news for families , kid’s cholesterol is down. On Tuesday the Journal of the American Medical Association released research that found the cholesterol levels in children have fallen. The lead author of the study, Dr. Brian Kit and his colleagues worked with and studied more than 16,000 children and adolescents over 3 different periods, 1988-1994, 1999-2002 and 2007-2010. It has been stated that overall, the average cholesterol fell from 165 to 160. A cholesterol of 200 is considered to be too high for a child.
Even with this great news for children, parents still need to be careful on the selection of foods and activity for their children, because the childhood obesity rate didn’t change. Many experts say this is happening because children are taking in less trans fat, so their cholesterol is seeing a drop. Trans fat has been removed or reduced in many processed foods including french fries and cookies. Even with this change parents should continue to keep their kids on a healthy diet and very active.
What are your thoughts on the new Cholesterol findings in kids? How do you keep your kids active and eating healthy?
